Elyse and
her love of horses
Her
story…..
 |
Hi my name is Elyse, I’m 14 years old and I’ve been riding
horses for six years. I started
out share boarding an Arab named Durrenza for about 3 years and then was able to
own
her for about 1 year. I recently lost her to an illness in February. She was
beautiful! She
was 23 years old when she died. She was chestnut in color with 2 white socks in
the front
and a white blaze. She was perfect for little children to ride and I loved to
give pony rides
with her. We won the Trail/Ranch class at Harvard’s
Milk Day Horse Show in 2004.
I
was so happy because
it was my first blue ribbon and belt buckle that I ever
won
with
her. I also showed her in the Trail Class,
Western Pleasure and Western
Horsemanship
classes in August of 2004 with 4-H at the McHenry
County Fair. I got 4-H blue
ribbons in
all three classes.
It was a long day but a lot of fun!
I still wanted to ride after losing Durrenza, but was
having trouble finding a horse that
matched my personality and my riding skills. I think I tried 6 different horses
and then
one day in April my mom got a phone call from Denim Hills Farm letting us know
that there was a horse/owner looking for someone to share board a sorrel gelding
quarter horse named Jack. Bill knew that I had lost my mare and just wanted to
know if we were interested. I had to have my green sheets in for 4-H so my mom
took me out to get a picture of Jack in case he was a match for me. It was a few
more weeks and a couple more rides that I decided that Jack was the ONE!!!!!!!
Jack is a very handsome Quarter Horse. We are still getting
to know each other, but he is a very good boy. Jack works hard for me and
listens really, really well. After only a few weeks of riding we went to our
first horse show on May 29, 2005, the Harvard Milk Day Horse Show. We didn’t
place in the Trail Class but we placed fourth in the English Pleasure class.
This was the first English Pleasure class that I ever did. I have just
started taking riding lessons from Manuela at Denim Hill. I hope someday to
do hunter jumper classes. |
I enjoy spending time at the barn with all the horses. I
like to spend time brushing and caring for the horses that don’t get a lot of
human visits. My favorites to groom right now are Claire and Dartagnan. I hope
to help Bill this summer with all of the horses. I have a busy schedule with
cheerleading and church, but horses are still my first love.
